NPP GA/R Chairman Election: ‘I'll be a servant, not a boss': Okoe Boye rejects ‘autocratic’ tag
Dr Bernard Okoe Boye has rejected claims that he would be autocratic and intolerant of divergent views if elected New Patriotic Party (NPP) Greater Accra Regional Chairman.
The former Health Minister and aspiring regional chairman described the claims by his opponents as baseless and a sign of desperation.
He spoke to Citi News at the WAEC Hall in Tema West, where the NPP Greater Accra Regional Executive elections are being held.
“In elections, you hear things you have never heard before. Once your opponent knows that he can’t speak to his competence and what he wants to do for the region, he may resort to these assertions,” he said.
Dr Okoe Boye also rejected the idea that leadership should be associated with age or dominating others.
He said, if elected, he would see his role as one of service and would place constituency executives at the centre of the party’s activities in the region.
“I think the concept people have of leadership, that the person must be very old and sitting at the table giving instructions is a medieval concept. In these modern times, a leader is not a lord, a leader is a servant,” he said.
He added: “I am coming as a Chief Servant in Accra. I am not coming as a Chairman who is going to be lord over the constituency executives. I am going to get closer to them and get to know what they need.”
