President Mahama convenes emergency Cabinet meeting to tackle cocoa sector challenges
President John Dramani Mahama has called for an emergency Cabinet session to address pressing concerns within Ghana’s cocoa sector, according to government spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu.
In a post shared on the social media platform X, Mr. Kwakye Ofosu announced that the special meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, February 11, 2026.
He indicated that the session will focus on resolving critical issues affecting the country’s cocoa industry.
Although details of the agenda were not immediately disclosed, the move signals the government’s urgency in responding to challenges facing the sector, which remains one of Ghana’s key economic pillars and a major source of foreign exchange.
Industry watchers say concerns such as declining production, farmer welfare, pricing, and operational difficulties within the cocoa value chain may feature prominently in discussions.
The emergency Cabinet meeting is expected to produce policy decisions aimed at stabilising and strengthening the cocoa industry to protect livelihoods and sustain national revenue.
