Solomon Owusu claims NPP is seeing defeat in Kpandai re-run
Director of Communications for the United Party (UP), Solomon Owusu, has stirred debate with allegations that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is intentionally reducing its campaign efforts ahead of the upcoming re-run election in Kpandai.
According to Owusu, the NPP’s low visibility is not a sign of confidence, but rather fear of an impending defeat by the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).
“The NPP will lose this re-run to the NDC at Kpandai, and that is why they are showing less interest in campaigning,” he claimed, adding that the party’s challenge is not fear of the election, but confusion over how to campaign effectively.
Mr Owusu further suggested that internal disagreements within the NPP are adding to the difficulty, especially over comments by some members that campaign strength in the Northern Region lies with former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
He gave this perspective to the NPP's action since the Tamale High declared a re-run of the election in Kpandai while speaking in an interview with the Accra-based CTV morning show hosted by Yaa Titi.
He claimed that some party supporters now question how Dr. Bawumia can secure votes in the Northern Region following the party’s declining popularity there, insisting that this has caused uncertainty within the NPP’s camp.
Mr Owusu argued that the NPP’s “lack of enthusiasm” is a signal that they recognise a loss may be imminent.
“They know the people have lost faith in their leadership, and they are avoiding the scrutiny that comes with facing the public,” he said.
As the re-run election approaches, political observers are closely watching both parties.
