Parliament approves expenditure to acquire 40,000 electronic fiscal devices to enhance VAT
Parliament has approved a multi-year expenditure commitment that will enable the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) through the Ministry of Finance to implement the Fiscal Electronic Device (FED) Policy as part of efforts to increase domestic revenue mobilisation.
The approval paves the way for the acquisition and nationwide deployment of 40,000 electronic fiscal devices to businesses, a move expected to enhance Value Added Tax (VAT) administration, improve tax compliance, and strengthen revenue collection.
Presenting the Finance Committee’s report to the House, Chairman of the Committee and Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central, Isaac Adongo, said the initiative forms part of government’s broader strategy to modernise tax administration and improve efficiency in revenue mobilisation.
The Minority Caucus, however, opposed the agreement, raising concerns over the absence of key details including the duration of the contract and the overall financial commitment associated with the project.
