President launches 2025 National Cyber Security Awareness Month
President John Dramani Mahama has launched the 2025 National Cyber Security Awareness Month, emphasising the importance of building a safe, informed, and accountable digital space.
The theme for this year's event highlights the need for collective action to protect Ghana's digital ecosystem.
The President outlined four flagship initiatives aimed at promoting digital transformation and cybersecurity in Ghana:
- 1 Million Coders Programme: Aims to train 1 million young Ghanaians in digital skills, including coding, software engineering, data analytics, and cyber security.
- Digital Jobs Initiative: A public-private partnership aimed at creating sustainable employment opportunities through technology.
- FinTech Group Fund: A $50 million fund to support indigenous startups and foster a vibrant digital finance ecosystem.
- 24-Hour Economy: Aims to promote digital resilience and secure systems for round-the-clock operations.
The President emphasised the importance of international cooperation in combating cybercrime, highlighting Ghana's commitment to global frameworks such as the Malabo Convention and the Budapest Convention on Cybercrime.
Ghana will also ratify and sign the United Nations Convention on Cybercrime, which will equip the country with new tools to investigate attacks, prosecute cybercriminals, and protect critical information infrastructure.
The President called on all citizens and stakeholders to take responsibility for cybersecurity, emphasising that it is a shared responsibility.
He urged Ghanaians to stay informed and vigilant, and to work together to build a cyber-resilient Ghana.
The President outlined his vision for a digital Ghana that is safe, inclusive, and accountable, with a focus on progress with protection, innovation with integrity, and inclusion with justice.
He emphasised that digitalisation without security is unsustainable, innovation without responsibility is dangerous, and opportunity without inclusion is unjust.
