Ayitey Powers remanded over alleged threat to shoot NSA boss
The Dansoman Circuit Court has remanded former professional boxer Michael Ayitey Okai, popularly known as Ayitey Powers, for one week over an alleged threat to shoot the Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Yaw Ampofo Ankrah.
Okai is facing a charge of threat of death, to which he has pleaded not guilty.
The prosecution told the court that Okai allegedly made the threat against Mr Ankrah in a social media video that later went viral.
In the video, Okai is alleged to have said: “You, Yaw Ampofo, I will shoot you with a gun.”
The Greater Accra Regional Police Command intercepted the video on August 18, 2026, following which Mr Ankrah lodged a complaint with the Police.
Okai was subsequently arrested over public safety and security concerns.
According to the prosecution, Okai admitted in his caution statement that he made the comment but said he did so out of anger.
He is expected to reappear before the court on September 2, 2026.
