Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku will accompany CAF President Patrice Motsepe on an official visit to Tanzania on Thursday, as part of ongoing preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.

Okraku, who serves as CAF's second vice-president, will be part of a high-level delegation assessing Tanzania's readiness to co-host the tournament alongside Kenya and Uganda — the first AFCON to be jointly hosted by three countries.

The Visit

The delegation is expected to inspect the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam, one of the key venues earmarked for the tournament, along with other related infrastructure.

The stadium has been undergoing upgrades to its playing surface, VIP and VVIP areas, and media facilities to meet CAF's requirements.

Motsepe will be received by Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) President Wallace Karia, before holding talks with Prime Minister Mwigulu Nchemba on the country's progress toward hosting the competition.

Also part of the delegation are CAF fifth vice-president Feizal Sidat, CECAFA President Paulos Weldehaimanot, and acting Secretary General Samson Adamu.

CAF inspectors have already conducted technical assessments in Tanzania, including reviews of the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium, training venues, hotels and airport facilities.

Background

The 2027 AFCON is scheduled to run from June 19 to July 17, with Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda working alongside CAF to ensure stadiums, training facilities, accommodation, transportation and security meet the required standards.

The three nations previously co-hosted the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), with lessons from that tournament expected to inform preparations for the larger AFCON event.
