The Ministry of Sports and Recreation and the Ghana Football Association (GFA) have agreed to constitute a five-member Technical Search Committee to identify and recommend a new head coach for the Black Stars.

The decision was reached at a meeting between Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams and the GFA leadership on Friday, October 2, 2026.

The committee will scout potential candidates and recommend a new head coach following the departure of Carlos Queiroz.

According to the outcome of the meeting issued by the Sports Ministry, the committee is expected to submit its report to the Ministry and the GFA by Friday, October 9, 2026.

The Ministry has not yet disclosed the names of the five members of the committee.

The formation of the committee was among measures agreed by the Ministry and the GFA to strengthen the management of Ghana’s national teams and establish a clearer pathway for football development.

Black Stars without a point

The new coach will take charge of a Black Stars side that has lost its opening two matches in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Ghana lost 2-0 to Côte d’Ivoire in Bouaké before suffering a 4-2 defeat to The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium, despite taking a 2-0 lead in the first half.

The results have left Ghana without a point from its opening two Group C matches.

The Black Stars are scheduled to face Somalia in a double-header in November.

Queiroz and the GFA mutually agreed to terminate their working relationship on Thursday, October 1, following the two defeats in Ghana’s opening AFCON qualifying matches.
