Mexico beat Ghana
Mexico produced a dominant display to beat Ghana 2-0 in an international friendly at Estadio Cuauhtémoc as both countries continue preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Goals from Brian Gutierrez and Guillermo Martinez secured victory for the hosts in a match largely controlled by El Tri from start to finish.

Mexico made a strong start and took the lead early in the first half when Gutierrez finished off a well-worked attacking move that exposed Ghana’s defence.

The home side continued to dominate possession and create chances, with Roberto Alvarado, Gilberto Mora and Jesus Gallardo all threatening to extend the lead before halftime.

Ghana goalkeeper Benjamin Asare, however, delivered several important saves to keep the Black Stars in the contest and prevent a heavier scoreline in the opening half.

The Black Stars struggled to establish control in midfield and found it difficult to create meaningful attacking opportunities. Ghana spent much of the match defending deep as Mexico maintained pressure and dictated the tempo.

After the restart, Mexico continued to control proceedings despite making changes to their lineup, while Ghana showed brief moments of improvement going forward.

Afena Gyan came close to pulling one back for Ghana with a dangerous effort, but Mexican goalkeeper Carlos Acevedo reacted quickly to deny the opportunity.

Mexico later doubled their advantage through Martinez, who finished off a swift counterattack after Ghana were caught exposed defensively.

With a comfortable two-goal lead, the hosts slowed the pace of the game and managed the closing stages effectively to secure victory ahead of their upcoming World Cup preparations.

The result highlights areas Ghana will need to improve, particularly in midfield cohesion and attacking play, as the Black Stars continue preparations for future international assignments.
