Antoine Semenyo celebrates Man City goal

Forward Antoine Semenyo has made history in the English Premier League (EPL) after becoming the first Ghanaian player to score 13 goals in a single season, breaking a long-standing national record.

The Manchester City attacker reached the milestone on Wednesday night when he scored in his side’s fixture against Fulham, moving past the previous benchmark of 12 goals set by Ghana legend Tony Yeboah.

Yeboah achieved the tally during his memorable spells with Leeds United in the 1994/95 and 1995/96 seasons, a record later matched by André Ayew at Swansea City in the 2015/16 campaign.

The mark had stood for nearly three decades before Semenyo’s breakthrough.

Semenyo had earlier come close to the feat in the 2024/25 season with 11 goals, but this term he has gone a step further to stand alone at the top of the Ghanaian scoring chart.

Since stepping up from the Championship to the English Premier League, the Black Stars forward has steadily established himself as one of the division’s most reliable attackers.

Despite only joining Manchester City in the winter transfer window, he has quickly become an important figure in Pep Guardiola’s squad as they push for the league title.

Across competitions, Semenyo has made an instant impact, registering seven goals and two assists in just eight appearances.

With the season still ongoing, the Ghana international now has the chance to extend his tally and further cement what is already shaping up to be a historic campaign.
