Tamale Mayor opens Honda Football Championship 2026
The 2026 Honda Football Championship officially kicked off today Tuesday 24th March and was graved by several dignitaries including the Mayor of Tamale Metro, Alhaji Abubakari Adam Takoro, who performed the ceremonial kick off alongside Francis Lew-Dibahi, Deputy Manager at Honda Motor Southern Africa.
His presence underscored the importance of the championship not only to sports development but also to youth engagement and community pride within the region.
Other distinguished dignitaries where present for the ceremony, among them were Idrisu Mohammed, a board member of the National Sports Authority, Jonah Yakubu, the Metro Coordinating Director, and the President of the Ghana University Sports Association (GUSA) Mr Shaibu Ibrahim Tanko all showing strong institutional support for the competition.
The championship, scheduled to run from Tuesday, 24th March to Sunday, 28th March 2026, will feature eight universities: University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), Bolgatanga Technical University (BTU), Tamale Technical University (TaTU), University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), University of Ghana (UG), University of Development Studies (UDS), University of Mines and Technology (UMaT), and University Business and Integrated Development Studies (UBIDS).
These institutions will battle it out at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium, all aiming to claim ultimate bragging rights and the grand prize of GH₵25,000.
