8 universities compete in maiden Honda Football Championship in Tamale
Football fans and university students in and around Tamale are set for an exciting tournament as Honda launches the maiden Honda Football Championship.
The competition aims to promote youth development, sportsmanship, and community engagement.
The tournament will be held at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium from Tuesday, March 24 to Saturday, March 28, 2026, running daily from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM.
Two top senior high school teams will also play a curtain-raiser match before the final.
Eight universities will compete in the championship:
- University of Ghana
- University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA)
- University of Mines and Technology (UMaT)
- University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR)
- University for Development Studies (UDS)
- University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (UBIDS)
- Tamale Technical University
- Bolgatanga Technical University
The event is free for the public, giving football fans, students, and residents the chance to enjoy all matches without paying. This reflects Honda’s commitment to youth empowerment and community-focused initiatives.
Mr F. Yao Dawson, Managing Director of Overseas Union Limited, said the tournament is designed to inspire young people.
According to him, it will help promote leadership, teamwork, and innovation while creating opportunities for positive social impact.
Residents of Tamale and nearby areas are encouraged to attend in large numbers to support the teams and enjoy what promises to be an exciting football atmosphere.
