Mahama announces plan to build 6 modern stadiums across Ghana
President John Dramani Mahama has unveiled a major infrastructure initiative aimed at transforming Ghana’s sporting landscape, announcing plans to construct six modern stadiums over the next two years.
Speaking during his ‘Resetting Ghana Tour’ in the Bono Region on Thursday, the President confirmed that his administration will build three new stadiums in 2026, followed by an additional three in 2027.
“This ambitious project is part of a broader national strategy to ensure that every region is equipped with fit-for-purpose sporting facilities,” Mahama said.
“These stadiums will enhance the competitiveness of Ghanaian football and provide world-class training grounds for local athletes.”
The president added that the first three stadiums are currently in the design phase, signaling that construction is set to begin soon.
This announcement aligns with previous commitments made by the Mahama administration to prioritise sports as an engine for social and economic transformation, reflecting a push to elevate Ghana’s sporting infrastructure to international standards.
The initiative is expected to have far-reaching impacts on the local sports sector, offering improved venues for both professional and grassroots sports programs.
