Otumfuo praises the wisdom of founders in establishing resilient Asante Kingdom
The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has praised the insight and foresight of the founders of the Asante Kingdom, a great West African empire that has remained resilient and relevant over the years.
Speaking at the British Museum in London on July 19, 2024, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II highlighted the wisdom and hard work that went into establishing the kingdom, noting that it continues to play a significant role in modern Ghana.
He emphasised that the founders' achievements were particularly remarkable given the lack of formal education at the time.
“The convergence of these objectives within the same epoch in time deserves historical acknowledgment. The power of the alphabet, which is writing and reading, had not yet penetrated the forest zone, and none of the chiefs gathered together had received any form of formal education which would have influenced their thinking,” he said.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II noted the innate wisdom and creativity of the founders in their nation-building efforts.
“The union state they created, with the monarch at the apex and the Golden Stool as the unifying emblem, has endured through all the changing times to this day in our own reign. It has been adaptable to the political evolution of our time without losing its essence,” he remarked.
Through his lecture, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II acknowledged and honored the enduring legacy of the Asante Kingdom's founders, underscoring their remarkable contributions to its continuous existence and relevance.
