Fiscal, environmental crimes: President Mahama announces plans to establish Specialised Financial Courts

President John Dramani Mahama has announced plans to establish Specialised Financial Courts to prosecute offences cited in the Auditor General’s Annual Report, as well as illegal mining (galamsey) and other environment-related crimes.
The initiative was revealed following a high-level meeting between the president, Acting Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, Attorney General and Minister for Justice Dr Dominic Ayine, and Auditor General Johnson Akuamoah Asiedu.
According to the president, the specialised courts will operate with circuit adjudications across the country to ensure swift and effective justice delivery.
The move forms part of government’s broader effort to strengthen accountability and protect Ghana’s natural resources.
In line with Article 187(7)(b) of the Constitution, the auditor general will continue to disallow illegal expenditures and surcharge persons found culpable.
Also present at the meeting were Supreme Court Judge Justice Gabriel Pwamang, Judicial Secretary Musah Ahmed, Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, Legal Counsel to the President Marietta Brew, Presidential Advisor Joyce Bawah Mogtari, and Minister of State for Government Communications and Presidential Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu.
