An illegal miner confronted by a law enforcer
President John Mahama in a press release has invited stakeholders to participate in a civil society organisation (CSO) engagement on illegal mining, otherwise known as galamsey.
The engagement is scheduled for Friday, October 3, 2025.
At the seat of government, Golden Jubilee House, Accra, the engagement will begin at 12 PM.
The engagement is aimed at providing a platform for fair and constructive dialogue between the government and civil society on the menace of illegal mining. It is expected to harness collective expertise, perspective and find solutions to address this national challenge.
Galamsey has terribly impacted provision of potable water by Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL), destroyed vegetation, resulted in grave public health issues, and threatens Ghana's cocoa industry, among other things.
