Police intercept truck carrying 36 bags of suspected narcotics on Sekesua road

The Ghana Police Service has launched investigations after intercepting a Kia truck with registration number ER-760-23 loaded with 36 sacks of dried substances suspected to be narcotics on the Sekesua road in the Eastern Region.
According to a police statement, the incident occurred on September 30, 2025, when officers from the Eastern Regional Police Headquarters, Koforidua, arrested the driver of the truck during a routine operation.
A search revealed that the vehicle, which appeared to be half-filled with sawdust, had 36 sacks of dried plant materials concealed within.
The truck and its contents were subsequently moved to the Sekesua Police Station.
However, police say the driver and his mate managed to escape custody, abandoning the truck.
A manhunt has since been launched to re-arrest the two suspects.
The intercepted truck and the suspected narcotics are currently being held at the Eastern Regional Command.
Police have dismissed media reports suggesting that the seized substances had turned into sawdust, describing them as false and misleading.
Meanwhile, the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) has opened an internal inquiry into the circumstances of the arrest and subsequent escape of the suspects, while investigations continue to determine the source and intended destination of the suspected narcotics.
