Defence Ministry, Catholic Bishops’ Conference discuss collaboration on Sahel peace initiative

The Ministry of Defence has held fruitful and forward-looking discussions with a delegation from the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference, led by Fr. Michael Quaicoe, Director of Governance, Justice and Peace.
The meeting took place yesterday at The Square, the Ministry’s headquarters.
The discussions focused on exploring potential collaboration between the Ministry and the Catholic Bishops’ Conference as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen peace and stability in Ghana and the wider West African region.
The proposed partnership is aligned with the Sahel Peace Initiative (SPI), a regional programme aimed at promoting peace, security, and social cohesion across the Sahel region of West Africa.
Fr. Quaicoe underscored the Catholic Church’s commitment to building systems and structures that support both internal and external security through meaningful partnerships.
He reiterated that the Sahel Peace Initiative seeks to galvanise interest and foster cooperation between stakeholders to promote shared peace and security.
Officials from the Ministry of Defence welcomed the proposal, recognising the value of engaging faith-based organisations in national and regional peacebuilding efforts.
