Fmr Defence Minister Nitiwul condemns 'undemocratic' raid on Ken Ofori-Atta's home

Former Defence Minister Dominic Nitiwul has condemned the raiding of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta’s home by men in military and police uniforms.
According to the Majority Leader of Parliament Mahama Ayariga, the “regrettable and unfortunate” raid was led by Richard Jakpa, an official at the National Security Coordinator’s office.
During parliamentary proceedings on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, Nitiwul, MP for Bimbilla, noted the use of the military in such operations was undemocratic.
"In a democracy, you do not use soldiers to raid somebody’s home, especially when that person has told you that he is not in the country and will report when he gets back," Nitiwul said.
Earlier, John Jinapor, MP for Yapei Kusawgu, had remembered when National Security personnel stormed his home during an investigation into the controversial Ameri deal, in 2017.
"On that fateful day when my house was raided by AK47-wielding National Security operatives, they banged on my door, creating fear and panic, sending my six-year-old child into a state of hysteria and fear," he bemoaned.
Underlining public officials had to account for their decisions and actions, he wished Ken Ofori-Atta "the best of luck" in his legal battle.
Ken Ofori-Atta, according to Mayo Clinic, Minnesota, USA, is under their medical care indefinitely.
The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) led by Kissi Agyebeng has declared him a wanted man, in light of him being cited in a number of high-profile corruption cases including the National Cathedral project.
