Haruna dwarfs Asiedu Nketia others in new Global InfoAnalytics polls

A new survey by Global InfoAnalytics has positioned Tamale South MP, Haruna Iddrisu, as the frontrunner to lead the National Democratic Congress (NDC) into the 2028 general elections.
The poll shows Haruna commanding 30% support, placing him ahead of NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia on 24% and Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson on 18%.
Other figures trail behind: Chief of Staff Julius Debrah secured 10%, North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa polled 8%, while Eric Opoku, Joshua Alabi, Armah-Kofi Buah, and Kwame Awuah-Darko each garnered 2%.
Former Trade Minister Dr. Ekwow Spio-Garbrah registered 1%, and Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije recorded negligible support.
Alternative ScenariosThe survey also tested potential outcomes under different race configurations:
Without Ato Forson: Haruna’s dominance widens, taking 45%, compared to Asiedu Nketia’s 37% and Julius Debrah’s 18%.
Among NDC supporters, his share rises to 47%, with a commanding 48% in swing regions.
Without Haruna: The race becomes highly competitive, with Asiedu Nketia leading at 40%, closely followed by Ato Forson on 38%, while Julius Debrah holds 22%.
Among core party supporters, Nketia (42%) and Forson (41%) are virtually tied. In swing regions, Forson performs best, leading with 47% against Nketia’s 38%.
Implications
The findings suggest Haruna Iddrisu is currently the clear favourite to succeed John Dramani Mahama.
However, should he step aside, the contest would likely transform into a two-horse race between Asiedu Nketia and Ato Forson, potentially reshaping the NDC’s succession dynamics as the 2028 elections approach.
