Injunction: Torkonoo testing the pulse of Mahama’s government -Ansah Asare

A former Director of the Ghana School of Law, Mr. Kwaku Ansah Asare, has described the recent actions of the suspended Chief Justice, Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, as “vexatious and frivolous.”
According to him, the embattled Chief Justice appears to be testing the resolve of President Mahama’s administration, following her suspension and the initiation of removal proceedings against her.
Speaking on Accra 100.5 FM’s evening news on Friday, October 18, 2025, Mr. Ansah Asare argued that Justice Torkornoo’s latest move—to seek an injunction against the appointment and vetting of Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonney as Chief Justice—was unnecessary and confrontational.
Supporting his remarks with an Akan proverb, he said: “Wo fifi efon eniasi wo saman to,” meaning, “If you disturb a dead body, you will see a ghost.”
He explained that the suspended Chief Justice seemed determined to “see something” after her removal from office.
Mr. Ansah Asare recalled that when a petition was filed for her removal, Justice Torkornoo requested a copy of it through the media, a request which the President duly obliged.
“She is bound to see a ghost one of these days, considering the stance she has taken after her removal,” he warned.
“Does she think that because she is not yet 70, the position of Chief Justice is like that of a Queen Mother—one you hold until death?”
He further advised the former Chief Justice to accept the decision and move on, stating: “Once you have been removed on the grounds of stated misbehaviour, you should let it go.”
Concluding his remarks, Mr. Ansah Asare cautioned that “the way she is going, she will be dealt with very soon.”
