Majority Leader in Parliament, Mahama Ayariga, has launched a scathing critique of the Minority Caucus over what he describes as hypocrisy and inconsistency in their support for the anti-LGBTQ+ bill.

Addressing the House, Mr Ayariga accused the Minority of playing politics with a deeply sensitive national issue, questioning their renewed activism for the bill after remaining silent when former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo declined to assent to the legislation.

“Where was this outrage when your own government refused to sign the bill?” Mr Ayariga queried.

“You cannot feign commitment to Ghana’s cultural values only when it is politically convenient.”

He insisted that the current Parliament remains committed to defending Ghana’s traditional values and culture, and said efforts to prevent the spread of LGBTQ+ practices remain a shared national priority, not a partisan one.

Mr Ayariga further urged members to avoid politicising moral and cultural issues, stressing the need for unity and sincerity in protecting the values that bind Ghanaians together.
