The Minority in Parliament is calling for the immediate resignation of the Minister of Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovation, Mr. Sam George, accusing him of mishandling negotiations with Multi-Choice Ghana over DSTV subscription fees.

At a press conference, the Member of Parliament for Abirem, Mr. Charles Asuako Owiredu, said the Minister’s handling of the matter exposed “incompetence, poor judgment, and lack of integrity,” rendering him unfit to hold office.

The controversy stems from the Minister’s initial insistence on a 30 percent reduction in DSTV’s premium bouquet charges. However, the government later announced promotional offers as the outcome of talks, which the Minority described as a humiliating retreat.

“The Minister misled Ghanaians, abandoned his own position, and ultimately acted as a public relations officer for Multi-Choice instead of defending consumers.

He must resign or be dismissed by the President,” Mr. Owiredu declared.

The caucus further accused the Minister of fabricating claims about negotiated gains, showing poor temperament in industry engagements, and undermining the National Communications Authority (NCA), which had sanctioned Multi-Choice for failing to provide pricing data.

Mr. Owiredu warned that the Minister’s actions have not only embarrassed the country but also damaged investor confidence in Ghana’s communications and digital innovation sector.

“The industry is too sensitive to be entrusted to a Minister who lacks the intellectual rigour and emotional intelligence required for such a role,” he said.

The Minority stressed that it will sustain pressure until the Minister resigns or is removed from office.
