NDC Deputy Director of Elections cautions against early endorsements in 2028 flagbearer race

The Deputy Director of Elections and IT of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Tanko Computer Rashid, has cautioned party members against reading too much into early polls and public speculation over who may contest the party’s presidential primaries ahead of the 2028 elections.
Speaking on TV3, Dr. Rashid stressed that no official process has been opened for the selection of a flagbearer, and that any projections or discussions at this stage should be treated as mere “sampling” rather than formal declarations of intent.
“These are sampling. My good friend has done sampling. He is thinking aloud for people. I know that officially none of them has declared their intention to contest anything because the writ of contest has not been given to us as the Directorate of Elections,” he explained.
Dr. Rashid emphasised that as an official responsible for supervising the party’s electoral processes, he can only act upon the directive of the National Executive Committee (NEC) through the Functional Executive Committee (FEC).
“I’m still the Deputy Director of Elections and IT, and before I do anything, I must have a writ from the office of the National Executive Committee led by FEC to go ahead with this agenda of electing a presidential candidate.
For now, let us look at it as just a sampling and not the decision of the party,” he added.
Commenting further, Dr. Rashid warned that premature endorsements or suggestions of bias could create unnecessary suspicion within the party, undermining unity ahead of the 2028 contest.
“Nothing destroys a group faster than unnecessary suspicion,” he cautioned
