NDC’s Godwin Tameklo urges party youth to build capacity

The Director of Legal Affairs of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Godwin Tameklo, has advised young members of the party to focus on building their personal and professional capacity rather than being overly concerned with political appointments.
Sharing his personal journey at a party engagement, Mr. Tameklo recalled how, after completing his National Service in 2008 and receiving a one-year contract extension, he dedicated himself to campaigning for the NDC' Parliamentary Candidate, Zita Benson, now Ghana's High Commissioner to UK in the Dome-Kwabenya Constituency of the Greater Accra Region and later at the late President Prof. John Evans Atta Mills’ campaign office at Kuku Hill in the Klottey Korle Constituency.
He gave this advice in a statement shared on his Facebook wall.
“At the campaign office, we were well catered for, but after the 2008 victory, I chose not to chase an appointment.
Instead, I enrolled at the law faculty for an LLB, then went to Makola.
It was a difficult decision, but I wanted to secure independence and build a strong professional foundation,” he said.
Mr. Tamekloe explained that while some colleagues immediately sought political appointments after the party’s 2008 victory, he opted to further his education, which has since shaped his career.
He stressed that politics in Ghana can be cutthroat, and young people must remain focused, resilient, and strategic in their choices.
“You must know that you will be deliberately misunderstood. Don’t take it personally — keep moving.
Build your capacity so that no matter the political climate, you will stand firm,” he urged.
The NDC legal chief further noted that while appointments are important, personal development ensures long-term relevance and independence in politics and professional life.
