NDC supporters mount pressure on President Mahama to sack Tano North MCE

Supporters of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) have joined public calls for President John Dramani Mahama to remove the Tano North Municipal Chief Executive, Pius Opoku, over allegations that he has deliberately misled the public about illegal mining in his area.
The agitation followed a post by JoyNews journalist Erastus Asare Donkor on Friday, October 3, in which he revealed that while the Bisi River downstream at Adrobaa was heavily polluted by galamsey activities, Mr Opoku led traditional leaders upstream to record videos portraying the water as clean.
Erastus described the conduct as “serious disinformation.”
Under the post, several NDC sympathisers demanded the MCE’s immediate dismissal, insisting his actions amounted to a breach of his oath of office. One commenter declared: “For me, the MCE of that district who gave false information to that level — Mr President, sack him immediately to serve as a deterrent to others.”
Another wrote: “MCE hand over to the coordinating director by the close of the day. I have fired you.”
Others expressed doubt about the sincerity of MCEs in galamsey-affected areas, with one remarking: “Even if an angel tells me MCEs in galamsey districts have no interest in galamsey, I will laugh. Tweaa!”
A few tagged President Mahama and the Lands Minister Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, urging them to take swift action against Mr Opoku.
