NPP flagbearership: Contesting costs GHS4.6m, says Ken Agyapong as he bemoans 'shameful' dev't fee

Kennedy Agyapong has bemoaned an exhorbitant combined charge of GHS4,600,000 to contest the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearership.
He said apart from paying GHS100,000 for the nomination form, and filing it for GHS500,000, he thought "it was a joke" when he was informed about a development fee of GHS4 million, only to find out the party executives were dead serious.
"As if it were a joke, I was given a deadline for the 5th," he emphasised.
"So filing and contesting [cost me a combined] GHS4.6 million."
The businessman and former Member of Parliemant decried the "shameful thing that happened".
"Can you believe the five contestants have been asked for GHS4 million each as development fee because the party does not have a dime?" he expressed his utter surprise.
Mr Agyapong was speaking to NPP members as he campaigned to lead the party, stressing his passion for party welfare.
He underscored his commitment to the prosperity of his supporters and party members, with their children's future secured.
"You also know what is good and beautiful. If your husband or child had a job... Even your child's bright future could guarantee your prosperity so party party welfare is very important to me. We need to build this party," Agyapong said.
