Agribusiness director tours abandoned Tamne Dam in Upper East Region
The Director of Agribusiness Development at the Presidency, Dr Peter Boamah Otokunor, has undertaken a working visit to the Upper East Region, where he inspected progress on the Tamne Dam project in the Garu District.
The dam, which began in 2015 under the administration of former President John Dramani Mahama, was later abandoned but has now reached about 75 per cent completion.
When finished, it is expected to irrigate more than 1,000 hectares of agricultural land.
During the visit, Dr. Otokunor engaged farmer groups in the area in discussions focused on agricultural production and the key challenges they face, including agronomic constraints and difficulties in accessing markets.
He outlined a number of measures being implemented by government to address these issues, including interventions aimed at improving productivity and strengthening agricultural value chains.
Dr. Otokunor also assured the farmers of the commitment of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government to promote modern irrigation agriculture as part of broader efforts to enhance food security.
