BoG Governor urges Fintech firms to balance innovation with responsibility
The Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Johnson Pandit Asiama, has called on financial technology (Fintech) firms to align innovation with strong regulatory compliance and consumer protection.
Speaking at a breakfast meeting with licensed Fintech institutions at Bank Square in Accra on Thursday, April 23, 2026, Dr. Asiama emphasised the importance of early engagement with regulators, sound corporate governance, and responsible innovation.
He noted that while Ghana has made significant strides in digital payments and financial inclusion over the past decade, sustaining this progress will depend on how well Fintech companies integrate responsibility into their operations.
“Over the past decade, Ghana has emerged as a leader in digital payments and financial inclusion,” he stated.
“Our role is not to slow innovation, but to ensure it endures.”
Dr. Asiama underscored the Bank of Ghana’s commitment to fostering a financial ecosystem that supports innovation while safeguarding the interests of consumers.
