Bank of Ghana honoured by Ghana Journalists Association for transparency, media engagement
The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has been honoured by the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) for its efforts to promote transparency and maintain constructive engagement with the media, the central bank said on Sunday.
The recognition was presented during the Second World Press Freedom Day Honours Night held in Accra on Saturday, June 6.
According to the GJA, the award acknowledges the Bank’s sustained contribution to national development through openness, accountability and effective communication with the public through the media.
The annual event celebrates individuals and institutions that have made significant contributions to media excellence, press freedom and national development.
Representing the Bank of Ghana at the ceremony were Bernard Otabil, Director of Communications, and Emelia Awuviri, Director of the External Facilities and Project Administration Department, who received the award on behalf of the institution.
The central bank said the honour reflects the importance of strong collaboration between public institutions and the media in promoting informed public discourse and enhancing public understanding of national policies.
This year’s World Press Freedom Day Honours Night focused on strengthening cooperation between state institutions and media organisations to advance transparency and accountability in governance.
The GJA noted that credible information sharing and regular engagement with journalists are essential to fostering public trust and supporting democratic development.
The recognition comes as the Bank of Ghana continues efforts to improve communication around monetary policy decisions, financial sector reforms and broader economic developments.
The award also highlights the role of public institutions in ensuring access to information and supporting an environment in which journalists can perform their duties effectively.
World Press Freedom Day is observed globally to celebrate the fundamental principles of press freedom, assess the state of media independence and honour journalists and institutions that contribute to the free flow of information.
The GJA’s annual honours programme forms part of activities aimed at recognising excellence in journalism and strengthening democratic governance in Ghana.
