GNPC EXPLORCO Limited, a subsidiary of Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), has issued a scoping notice for a proposed onshore exploratory drilling project in the GH-VB-01 block within the Volta Basin as part of efforts to assess the country’s onshore hydrocarbon potential.

The proposed project forms part of ongoing initiatives to expand Ghana’s energy resource base through the exploration of possible oil and gas reserves in the basin.

According to the company, the scoping exercise forms an important stage of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process and is intended to identify potential environmental and social impacts that may arise from the planned exploratory drilling activities.

As part of the process, stakeholders and members of the public have been invited to submit comments, concerns and relevant insights regarding the potential environmental implications of the project.

The company noted that public participation is essential to ensuring that all environmental and regulatory requirements are fully considered before the project proceeds.

GNPC EXPLORCO Limited emphasised that the initiative is being undertaken in accordance with established environmental assessment procedures and forms part of broader efforts to responsibly evaluate Ghana’s onshore hydrocarbon prospects
