The International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) is exploring the operationalisation of its services in Ghana, in a move expected to strengthen investor confidence and reinforce the country’s position as a leading investment destination in Africa.

This was disclosed during a high-level engagement with the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), where ICSID Secretary-General Martina Polasek and Senior Counsel Aissatou Diop held discussions on deepening cooperation in investment dispute resolution and prevention.

The talks focused on the possibility of Ghana serving as a regional hub for investor-state dispute prevention, mediation, and capacity-building services across Africa.

According to participants, the discussions also underscored Ghana’s growing strategic importance, citing its role as host of the African Continental Free Trade Area Secretariat and its expanding influence within Africa’s investment and trade landscape.

The GIPC Chief Executive Officer, Simon Madjie, expressed Ghana’s readiness to collaborate with ICSID to strengthen dispute prevention mechanisms, improve grievance handling, and enhance investor facilitation systems.

He noted that such a partnership would help sustain a predictable, transparent, and investor-friendly business environment in Ghana while reinforcing confidence among international investors.
