Mahama cuts sod for Tema Industrial Park, pledges to position Ghana as West Africa's leading manufacturing hub
President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to making Ghana the preferred destination for industrial production and export-oriented manufacturing in West Africa following the commencement of the Tema Integrated Industrial Park.
Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony in Tema, President Mahama described the project as a landmark investment that will drive Ghana’s industrialisation agenda, create sustainable employment opportunities, and strengthen the country’s competitiveness in both regional and international markets.
The Tema Integrated Industrial Park is a joint initiative between TDC Ghana Limited and the Ghana Integrated Aluminium Development Corporation, GIADEC. The project is part of a wider industrial development programme expected to cover approximately 11,000 acres, making it one of the largest industrial parks on the African continent.
President Mahama said the park represents a major milestone in Ghana’s industrial transformation and demonstrates the government’s commitment to developing well-planned industrial infrastructure capable of attracting both domestic and foreign investment.
He added that the facility will play a central role in the government’s 24-hour economy policy by enabling industries to operate around the clock, supported by integrated logistics, warehousing, and customs services to ensure the efficient movement of Ghanaian products to international markets.
Managing Director of TDC Ghana Limited, Courage Nunekpeku, said the industrial park is expected to stimulate industrial growth, attract strategic investments, and generate thousands of direct and indirect jobs for Ghanaians.
Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, said the project will help reduce Ghana’s reliance on imported industrial machinery and equipment, easing pressure on the country’s foreign exchange reserves while strengthening local manufacturing capacity.
