Parliament ratifies air service agreements with 6 countries to boost aviation and trade
Parliament has ratified bilateral air service agreements between Ghana and six countries to expand international air connectivity and strengthen the country's aviation sector.
The agreements establish the legal framework for direct flight operations, dispute resolution and compliance with international civil aviation standards. They are also expected to support trade, tourism, investment and broader economic activity.
Speaking in Parliament, the Minister for Transport, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, said the agreements will allow designated airlines from Ghana and the partner countries to operate direct flights, improving connectivity and facilitating economic growth.
Mr Nikpe noted that although some of the agreements were signed several decades ago, with some dating back to 1988, they had remained unratified until now.
He said Parliament's approval provides Ghana with the legal basis to fully implement the agreements and exercise the rights granted under them, including access to the airspace of the partner countries.
