The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has disbursed more than GHS157 million in claims to healthcare providers across the country for services rendered under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) in April 2026.

According to the Authority’s Claims Directorate, the payments were released in two tranches: GHS43.7 million on April 14 and a further GHS113.6 million on April 30.

The disbursement covered both vetted claims up to March 2026 and previously outstanding unvetted claims dating as far back as 2019, which had accumulated due to what the Authority described as “isolated peculiar challenges.”

The NHIA said the settlement of arrears forms part of ongoing efforts to ensure uninterrupted healthcare delivery and to improve the financial stability of health facilities that provide services to NHIS members.

Private healthcare facilities received the largest share of the payments, followed by public and mission health facilities.

A breakdown of the disbursement shows that high-volume facilities accounted for 64 percent of the claims paid, while clinics and health centres received 23 percent.

CHPS compounds accounted for nine percent, with specialised facilities receiving four percent.

The Authority reaffirmed its commitment to clearing outstanding arrears and strengthening the financial capacity of healthcare providers nationwide to enhance service delivery under the NHIS.

The information was contained in a statement Issued by the Corporate Affairs Directorate of the NHIA.

The statement further emphasized that the timely payment of claims remains central to sustaining confidence in the national health insurance system and ensuring continuity of care for patients across Ghana.
