Eugene Zuta urges young Gospel ministers to treat ministry as a “marathon,” not a sprint
Gospel musician Eugene Zuta has shared reflections on what he describes as key gaps in gospel music, particularly the difference between musical skill and true ministry.
Speaking on No.1 FM’s Journey to Heaven programme, hosted by Taller Dee, he emphasized that many young ministers focus heavily on talent and trends, but often overlook the spiritual depth required for lasting impact.
According to him, one of the biggest challenges in gospel music today is how ministers build themselves in God, stressing that ministry is not a short race but a lifelong journey.
“The ministry is not a hundred meters dash, it is a marathon,” he explained, adding that patience, consistency, and spiritual grounding in the Word and the Holy Spirit are essential for anyone who wants their ministry to endure.
He further noted that many songs today are being recycled from older generations, while fewer ministers are developing the discipline to create original, Spirit-led music. He encouraged upcoming gospel artists to move beyond chasing trends and instead focus on building a strong relationship with God.
“The best way to trend is to trend before God,” he said, urging young ministers to prioritize spiritual growth over popularity, so their ministries can stand the test of time.
