‘I’m focused on wealth creation’ — Shatta Wale shares new vision
Ghanaian dancehall artiste Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr., popularly known as Shatta Wale, has revealed that he no longer sees music as his main occupation, claiming he stepped away from active music three years ago to concentrate on building businesses.
The award-winning musician made the disclosure during an interview with Bola Ray on May 28, 2026, where he spoke extensively about his growing interest in entrepreneurship and wealth creation.
According to Shatta Wale, although many people still identify him primarily as a musician, his attention has shifted towards establishing businesses that can generate long-term financial returns beyond the entertainment industry.
Speaking about his investments, the artist mentioned ventures such as Shaxi and Hot Wave, which he described as key components of his expanding business portfolio.
“Yes, I’m doing business. Hot Wave, Shaxi,” he said.
Shatta Wale also disclosed that his business operations have developed partnerships and investment links in countries including China and the United Arab Emirates.
He further announced the launch of a new digital marketplace designed to support traders, particularly those operating within Accra's Tuesday Market. According to him, the platform forms part of a broader vision to introduce technology-driven solutions that can benefit local businesses.
Hinting at future developments, the musician suggested that more innovative projects would soon be introduced.
“Something explosive is coming. So that is what we launched yesterday, and it’s beautiful,” he stated.
His remarks have sparked discussion among fans and industry observers, many of whom find it difficult to reconcile his retirement claim with his continued activities in the music industry.
Despite describing himself as retired, Shatta Wale remains one of Ghana’s most influential entertainers. In recent years, he has continued to release songs, perform at major events, and maintain a strong presence on social media.
His annual music festival, Shattafest, continues to attract large crowds, while preparations are underway for the event's upcoming UK edition scheduled for August.
