Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa says staff of Ghana’s Passport Administration will receive a special bonus next week in recognition of their performance and contribution to ongoing reforms.

Mr Ablakwa announced the incentive after paying a working visit to the Passport Head Office, where he congratulated management and staff for the institution’s performance in the latest Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) report.

According to a Facebook post by the minister, the Passport Administration emerged as the most transformed and least corrupt public institution in the report.

He said the bonus was intended to recognise the “impressive output” of passport administration staff and motivate them to sustain the progress made.

Mr Ablakwa said the government would continue with what he described as “radical reforms” in the Passport Administration, driven by integrity, professionalism, innovation, client satisfaction and excellence.

He highlighted several reforms, including the introduction of 24-hour operations to clear passport application backlogs, processing of passports in under 15 working days, a 30% reduction in processing fees and the introduction of courier services.

Same-day passport processing, digital application tracking and enhanced security protocols have also been introduced, he said.

Mr Ablakwa further noted that Passport Application Centres are now available in all 16 regions, describing the development as a first in Ghana’s history.
