Ashanti Market Queen mothers urge calm over Kejetia phase 2 project
The Association of Market Queen Mothers in the Ashanti Region has urged traders to exercise restraint and avoid mounting pressure on the government regarding the completion of the second phase of the Kejetia Market project.
Speaking to the media in Kumasi on Wednesday, April 22, the Queen Mother for Dry Fish Traders, Grace Agyei Darko, assured that authorities have pledged to fast-track the project and called on traders to remain patient.
She recalled that the first phase of the Kejetia Market was completed under the previous Mahama-led administration, adding that the current government is also working towards finishing the Krofrom Market to help reduce congestion in the Kumasi Central Business District.
The queen mothers commended the earlier NDC government for delivering the Asawasi and Atonsu market projects.
However, they criticised the New Patriotic Party administration for failing to complete the second phase of Kejetia and the Krofrom Market within its eight-year tenure.
They appealed for calm among traders, emphasizing that efforts are underway to improve market infrastructure across the region.
