Ashanti Region to join 2-day national clean-up exercise
The Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council (ARCC) has announced that the region will participate in the two-day National Clean-up Exercise scheduled for Friday, July 10 and Saturday, July 11, 2026.
The exercise follows a declaration by President John Dramani Mahama and is aimed at improving environmental sanitation, preventing sanitation-related diseases, mitigating flooding, and promoting healthier communities.
In a press release, the ARCC said all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs), working with Zoomlion Ghana Limited and other stakeholders, have been directed to coordinate the exercise within their respective jurisdictions.
Friday, July 10 has been designated as Institutional Clean-up Day. Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), MMDAs, educational institutions, health facilities, and public and private institutions are expected to clean their premises and immediate surroundings.
The council said the Ghana Education Service has also been tasked with ensuring the participation of all basic, junior high and senior high schools across the region.
Saturday, July 11 will be observed as Community Clean-up Day, with residents encouraged to desilt drains, clear choked gutters, remove refuse, and clean public spaces, markets, lorry parks, and other environmentally sensitive areas.
The ARCC further announced that the Ghana Armed Forces, Ghana Police Service, Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana Prisons Service, National Ambulance Service, and other security agencies will participate, particularly on Saturday, to support community mobilisation and ensure the success of the exercise.
The council has called on traditional authorities, religious bodies, community-based organisations, market associations, transport unions, youth groups, the private sector, and residents across the Ashanti Region to actively participate in the exercise.
