The Court of Appeal has acquitted and discharged Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu, former Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC).

The ruling overturns her earlier conviction and 10-year prison sentence. It was delivered on Thursday, 30 July 2026.

The court held that the prosecution failed to prove its case against her beyond reasonable doubt. This set aside the conviction entered against her by the High Court.

Ms Tamakloe-Attionu had appealed against both her conviction and the way she was tried and sentenced in her absence. Her lawyers argued that the charges against her were defective and that the prosecution had failed to prove the offences beyond reasonable doubt.

She was extradited from the United States and returned to Ghana on 9 June. She began serving her sentence at Nsawam Medium Security Female Prison on 24 June.

She had travelled to the United States in 2021, with the High Court's permission, for medical treatment while her trial was ongoing, but did not return.

In 2024, an Accra High Court found her guilty of multiple offences, including causing financial loss to the state and stealing, over the alleged misappropriation and diversion of state resources during her time as MASLOC CEO.

The Court of Appeal has now overturned that decision.
