Communications Ministry rejects claims of misuse of public funds
The Ministry of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations (MOCDTI) has dismissed claims circulating on social media suggesting that the sector minister, Samuel Nartey George, has misused public funds.
In an official statement signed by the ministry’s Public Relations Directorate, MOCDTI said the document being circulated online is an extract from a broader official submission seeking Commitment Authorisation from the Ministry of Finance.
According to the ministry, the request forms part of established public financial management and procurement procedures and is based on budgetary allocations approved by Parliament for the 2026 fiscal year.
The ministry explained that the submission covers several planned projects, operational activities and programme interventions expected to be undertaken within the year under review.
MOCDTI further clarified that the Commitment Authorisation request has not yet received approval from the Ministry of Finance.
It stressed that no funds have been released, disbursed or spent in relation to the items referenced in the circulating document.
“The Ministry, therefore, describes the claims suggesting that public funds have already been squandered as inaccurate, misleading and devoid of context,” the statement said.
The ministry also reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability and compliance with public financial management regulations in the execution of its mandate.
