The Municipal Chief Executive for Tano-North in the Ahafo Region, Pius Opoku, has led a high-level anti-illegal mining (galamsey) operation at Adegyemim, resulting in the destruction of equipment and seizure of heavy machinery used for illegal mining activities.

The operation brought together key stakeholders, including the Ahafo Regional Minister, Collins Dauda, and Bono Regional Minister, Charity Gardiner, alongside the MCE for Tano South, the Regional Police Commander, members of the Regional Intelligence and Security Committee, Blue Water Guards, and officials from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

During the inspection, illegal mining equipment and materials were destroyed on site as part of efforts to clamp down on galamsey activities in the area.

Authorities also seized two excavators and one bulldozer, which were subsequently towed away from the site.

However, the illegal mining operators reportedly fled the scene before they could be arrested.

Officials involved in the operation reiterated their commitment to protecting land, water bodies, and the environment from the destructive effects of illegal mining.

The MCE in a remark stressed that coordinated enforcement efforts would continue in order to curb galamsey activities and preserve natural resources for future generations.
