About 2,500 members of the Institute of Chartered Accountants Ghana (ICAG) have gathered in Ho, the Volta Regional capital for the 2026 Accountants Conference.

The week-long conference is being held under the theme, “Building Strong and Sustainable Economies: Standards, Integrity and Accountability.”

Addressing participants at the event, Dr John Kwabena Kwakye, who serves as Advisor to the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, underscored the importance of ethical leadership and transparency in rebuilding public trust and addressing national challenges such as corruption and economic instability.

He urged accountants to integrate sustainability tracking into everyday corporate practices to help organisations reduce waste and effectively manage climate-related financial risks.

Dr. Kwakye also advocated greater transparency and accountability within both public and private institutions, stressing that such principles remain essential for sustainable economic growth.

Touching on technology and innovation, he encouraged accounting professionals to embrace Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in order to remain competitive and relevant in the evolving professional landscape.

According to him, accountants who adapt to AI technologies would be better positioned for future opportunities, noting that individuals who embrace AI are more likely to replace those who resist technological change rather than AI replacing professionals entirely.

The conference is expected to provide a platform for professional development, policy discussions, networking, and dialogue on emerging trends shaping the accounting and financial sectors.
