NPP to hold major demonstration over political intimidation claims

The National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, has announced that the party will organise a massive demonstration to protest against what it characterizes as the harassment and intimidation of opposition members by state security agencies.

This announcement follows the rearrest and two-week remand of the NPP Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe, also known as Abronye DC, on Wednesday, May 13, 2026.

Abronye DC is currently under investigation for allegations involving misinformation and offensive public statements, having been taken back into custody just weeks after being granted bail.

Speaking on Joy FM’s Top Story, Mr Boakye described the situation as a deliberate attempt by the government to silence critics and criminalize free speech.

He cited the case of David Essendoh as another example of this pattern, alleging that Essendoh was picked up by armed men and moved between security installations without his family’s knowledge after posting a "Dumsor is back" image on social media.

Mr Boakye criticised the government for focusing on the intimidation of political opponents rather than addressing more pressing national issues, asserting that the party would not be silenced by these tactics.
