The legal proceedings involving nine individuals linked to the recent shooting incident that left former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament, Sarah Adwoa Safo, injured have been officially adjourned to September 23.

The adjournment follows a decision by the Adentan Circuit Court to grant all nine accused persons bail. The bail conditions were set at GH¢500,000 each with two sureties. According to the court's directives, the sureties are not required to be justified but they must complete all necessary bail justification documentation.

Speaking to Eyewitness News on Tuesday, June 23, counsel for the Kristo Asafo Mission, Nana Kofi Safo Kantanka, confirmed the specifics of the charges leveled against the defendants.

He stated that the prosecution's case is primarily centered on two main allegations, which are unlawful possession of weapons and involvement in prohibited vigilante activity. All nine accused individuals have entered pleas of not guilty to the charges.

The individuals currently standing trial include Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena, who is a relative of the injured former lawmaker. The other accused persons are Jehosaphat Tamaklo Safo, Kwabena Safo, Benjamin Amoakwa Sam, Enock Badu, Richard Ayitey, Gideon Safo, Nana Kwaku Afriyie, and Kwadwo Safo Koomsom. Several of the accused reportedly served as personal bodyguards for the faction involved in the underlying dispute.

Prosecutors have alleged that the gunfire, which resulted in injuries to Ms. Safo, broke out during activities tied to a highly contested installation process within the Kristo Asafo Mission.

The violent confrontation was reportedly triggered by an ongoing leadership struggle that emerged following the death of the religious group's founder, Kwadwo Safo Kantanka.

The Adentan Circuit Court is expected to resume hearings on the matter in September as state investigations and legal processes continue.
