Deputy Attorney-General dismisses claims EOCO denied lawyers access to Hanan Abdul-Wahab

The Deputy Attorney-General, Justice Srem Sai, has rejected allegations by former Attorney-General Godfred Yeboah Dame that lawyers were denied access to former National Food Buffer Stock Company CEO Abdul-Wahab Hanan and his wife, Faiza Sayyid Wuni.

Speaking to journalists at the High Court in Accra on Thursday, May 7, Justice Srem Sai described the claims as unfounded and accused the former Attorney-General of creating a misleading public narrative.

The controversy follows the re-arrest of Abdul-Wahab Hanan, his wife, and other accused persons by the Economic and Organised Crime Office shortly after the Office of the Attorney-General withdrew charges against them over what it described as new evidence.

Lawyers for the couple, led by Godfred Yeboah Dame, had earlier alleged that they had been unable to reach their clients more than 24 hours after the arrests.

Responding to the concerns, Justice Srem Sai argued that the former Attorney-General had chosen to litigate the matter in the media instead of using the appropriate legal and institutional channels to engage EOCO officials.

According to him, bypassing established procedures in favour of public commentary risks creating confusion about due process and undermining confidence in the justice system.
