Dr. Mary Awusi, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Free Zones Authority(GFZA) and a senior member of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), has issued an unqualified apology to Apostle Dr. Eric Nyamekye, Chairman of The Church of Pentecost, following public reactions to her recent remarks.

Speaking via a phone call on The Citizen Show on Accra 100.5 FM  hosted by Kaakyire Kwesi Appea Apreku …” Dr. Awusi expressed deep respect and admiration for Apostle Nyamekye, describing him as a man worthy of honour.

She emphasised her long-standing respect for pastors and acknowledged the Apostle’s dedication to ministry, noting his rise through the ranks to lead one of Ghana’s largest churches.

“I have special respect for pastors,” she stated, adding that she recognises the years of service, commitment, and leadership demonstrated by Apostle Nyamekye.

She stressed that she would never intentionally insult or disrespect him, highlighting that her earlier comments were not meant as a personal attack on his person.

Dr. Awusi explained that her previous statement was simply her opinion, in which she described some of the Apostle’s remarks as “highly political.”

However, she clarified that her intention was not to undermine his personality or position.

She further indicated that, in her view, religious leaders hold a prestigious role in society and should be mindful of statements that may be perceived as political.

According to her, her comments were meant to encourage a clear distinction between pastoral duties and political discourse.

Acknowledging the public backlash, Dr. Awusi said she regrets any offence caused by her remarks.

She extended an unreserved apology to Apostle Nyamekye, the Church of Pentecost, and the general public.

“If my words were misunderstood or deemed inappropriate, I sincerely apologise,” she said.

“I respect the man, his office, his age, and his contributions to the church and society” she concluded
