A 36-year-old school nurse at Ofori Panin Senior High School has died following a motorbike accident at OPASS Junction in the Eastern Region.

According to the Ghana Police Service, the accident occurred in the early hours of Friday, May 8, 2026, near the Lakeside washing bay at OPASS Junction.

Police said officers from the New Tafo-Akim District Command received reports of the crash at about 1:30 a.m. and proceeded to the scene, where they found the victim with severe injuries lying near a Royal motorbike with registration number M-23-UE 424.

The victim, identified as Edward Cann, was rushed to the New Tafo-Akim Government Hospital for emergency treatment but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Mr. Cann was travelling from Kukurantumi toward OPASS Junction when the accident occurred.

Police suspect the rider may have failed to disengage the motorbike’s kickstand before setting off. Investigators believe the kickstand struck the road surface while the bike was in motion, causing him to lose control and fall.

The body has been deposited at the New Tafo-Akim Government Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy, while the motorbike has been impounded at the New Tafo Police Station for further examination.

The Police Service extended condolences to the family of the deceased and the OPASS community.
