Amissah Death: Committee Recommends Sanctions for Doctors, Nurses
A committee tasked with probing the death of Charles Amissah, an engineer with Promasidor Ghana Limited, has proposed wide-ranging disciplinary measures alongside major reforms to Ghana’s emergency healthcare system.
The recommendations follow an inquiry into the death of the 29-year-old, an incident that has deepened public concern over emergency response challenges, particularly the persistent “no-bed syndrome.”
The committee, chaired by Agyeman Badu Akosa, found that several healthcare workers failed to uphold their professional responsibilities, prompting calls for sanctions across multiple institutions.
Among those mentioned is Dr Anne-Marie Kudowor, who has been recommended for referral to the Police Hospital and the Medical and Dental Council for disciplinary proceedings over alleged misconduct and claims of providing misleading information during the probe.
Dr Nina Naomi Eyram Adotevi is also to be referred to the Greater Accra Regional Hospital and the Medical and Dental Council, while Dr Ida Druant and Dr Genevieve Adjar have been cited for similar actions at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, alongside referrals to the regulatory body.
The committee further recommended disciplinary action against two nurses, Miss Akosua B. Turkson and Miss Joy Daisy Nelson, who are to be referred to their respective facilities and the Nursing and Midwifery Council for further action.
